10 tips to turn your winter garden into a fairy tale

10 tips to turn your winter garden into a fairy tale

Any garden owner wants his island of wildlife to please the eye at any time of the year. But in winter everything falls asleep under the snow. It is much easier to create decorations on the site, even at such a time of the year that is not very eventful for the garden, than it seems.

Plant herbaceous plants in the garden

Some plant species retain their stems and leaves, which look good at any time of the year. Among herbaceous crops, these include cereals and reeds. Panicles and spikelets of miscanthus powdered with snow will look spectacular. For the winter, you can not cut it off, but leave yourself the opportunity to admire its lush beauty. But it is still worth tying up the stems so that they do not fall apart with snow. And remember that not all plant varieties tolerate overwintering well without shelter. Some still have to be hidden. The most unpretentious and winter-hardy of miscanthus is sugar-flowered.

A striking contrast against the background of evergreen conifers will create straw-colored stems of wild oats and rod-shaped millet.

Use interestingly shaped shrubs

In summer, the shrubs are eye-catching thanks to their lush crown, which can be shaped into any shape. In winter, branches begin to play, which in warm weather were hidden under abundant foliage, and in autumn they merged with the general grayness around.

In winter, under a layer of snow, branches and stems become more noticeable, their pattern is well traced. You can use this feature. Plant some shrubs with irregularly shaped branches. This is what the Kontorta hazel tree has. Its branches are twisted into a spiral. And in the willow of Matsuda, they are completely curly.

Plant plants with colored shoots

You can add bright colors to the garden in winter with the help of plants with colored stems.

The serrated cherry has rich maroon shoots with transverse stripes.

Derain white is a classic option for both summer and winter decoration. Its bright red twigs will bring dynamics to the asleep garden corner. In order for the plant to look magnificent and impressive in winter, you need to take care of this in early spring. Branching is stimulated by pruning a third of the old shoots flush with the ground.

The scion sod will add yellow colors. More precisely, its Flaviramea variety.

Various varieties of Vitellina willow will loom in the winter garden with orange, golden and red bark.

Take care of planting conifers and shrubs

Rarely does an ornamental garden do without conifers. They perform different functions. Evergreen spruces, junipers, thuja serve both as a vegetable fence on the site, and as a source of natural antiseptics - phytoncides. In winter, these needle-like flora remind us of summer days thanks to their greenery.

And if a tree or spruce grows in the garden, they will cope well with the role of the main New Year's tree. There is absolutely no need to cut them down to the very spine, as the song says. It is much more interesting to decorate the Christmas tree right on the site.

However, not all conifers overwinter without shelter.

Plant evergreen or semi-evergreen deciduous plants

Not only coniferous beauties stay green in winter. Some deciduous trees also have this luxury available.

Huge paws of badan leaves winter well without shelter. After all, the plant comes from Altai and has a good hardening. Periwinkle also preserves the green of its shoots in winter.

Medicinal laurel can stay even in 25-degree frost. Although its progenitor, laurel, does not tolerate snowy winters outdoors.

The common holly is considered a symbol of Christmas in the west. The plant can survive the winter only where there is no severe frost.

Rhododendrons, euonymus, and some types of Mahonia also stay overwintered with green foliage.

Pay attention to plants whose fruits remain decorative.

Deep-colored berries covered with snow - this contrast will add bright spots to the decoration of your garden. This element of natural decor will not require any investment and diligence on your part. The fruits of holly, barberry, cotoneaster, snowberry and some decorative apple trees look beautiful. The traditional option is mountain ash. However, its berries do not survive until the end of winter.

Remember that the abundance of berries will attract many birds to your garden. This is not bad in itself. But only with strong attention of the feathered berries will quickly end. Therefore, feed the birds with other delicacies, and let the fruits remain for decoration.

Place feeders for wintering birds in the garden

Bird feeders are not only proof of your concern for nature. They can be turned into real art objects.

Interesting models are sold in stores, but you can make your own feeder by decorating it in the form of a house with a fence or styling it as a Japanese pagoda. A simple and original feeder is obtained by gluing the side of the cup to the saucer.

Supply decorative garden sculptures

A great decoration for the garden at any time of the year is garden sculptures and other items that will look good on the site. There are many options for small architectural forms for the garden in stores now, but with a little effort, you can make sculptures yourself.

To decorate the garden, you can use seemingly unnecessary things, for example, an old bicycle, boots, a broken garden wheelbarrow.

But the most winter option is ice and snow sculptures. You can make small figures yourself. Freeze water in a baking dish. There are many animal-shaped silicone molds on sale now. The sculpture can be tinted or backlit and placed on some kind of elevation (stone, bench), and then it will look more impressive.

Take care of garden lighting

In winter, with a short sunny day, you won't be able to admire your beautiful garden for long. So that at night you can see how your corner lives in winter, add lighting. Let it be not only functional, but also decorative. Instead of an ordinary light bulb, hang a beautiful vintage lantern, decorate the trees with neon garlands.

With good lighting in the garden in winter, it will be possible to arrange holidays and just family gatherings. Spot candles in beautiful colored jars are suitable for them. A biofireplace will help create a unique and cozy atmosphere.

Use decorative and original winter plant shelters

Use decorative winter shelters. Their main purpose is to protect plants in the cold season, but with the help of skillful hands and a drop of imagination, such shelters can be easily turned into interesting garden decorations.

You can build figures from thick waterproof fabric. Then at the site you will be met by Santa Claus and Snow Maiden or a white bear. Another option is to make something like a hut around the plants. You can also decorate cocoons for sheaves. It will not be difficult for wicker craftsmen to make baskets from willow branches.

Taking care of decorating the site in spring, next winter you will get a bright garden that will delight the eye, contrasting with the monochromatic snowy landscape.

Method 2. Add water elements to the garden

In general, the main thing is not how big the reservoir is, but what how its coastline is framed. However, the water element does not necessarily mean real water. Symbols can also be used. For example, make a "dry" pond or dry stream from pebbles, glass stones, colored gravel or flowers.

Crafts for the New Year holidays

When decorating your home for the New Year, do not forget about the yard and garden. With skillful hands, it is possible to turn the site into a real New Year's kingdom.

Luminous sculptures made of cling film and scotch tape

You've probably seen the flickering translucent figurines of deer and other New Year's characters in the windows of shopping centers, and just on the streets. Few people know that such beauty can be done by hand.

The most interesting thing is that for work you only need a couple of rolls of cling film, a roll of wide adhesive tape and a luminous garland. The only difficulty lies in finding a suitable shape for wrapping with film - these can be oversized garden sculptures, interior figurines and other interesting things.

  1. Wrap the selected shape tightly and evenly with cling film in 5-6 layers. The more layers, the stronger the sculpture will be.
  2. On top of the film, stick 2-3 layers of tape. It is more convenient to work with segments of 25-30 cm. Try to keep the adhesive tape flat and not wrinkle.
  3. Using a construction knife or scissors with sharp ends, cut the workpiece and remove it from the mold.
  4. Place the garland inside. To ensure that the bulbs fill the space evenly and do not become clumped, fix them in the desired position with pieces of scotch tape. Remember to pull the power plug out.
  5. Cover the cut with duct tape. The magic glowing sculpture is ready!

How to make Christmas garlands on the street

Decorate tree branches, a fence, or the front of your home with colorful garlands made from a variety of materials. Even children can be entrusted with making these simple winter crafts - they will surely enjoy making funny little things with their own hands.

First of all, you need a strong rope to make the garlands. You can attach anything you want to it - Christmas figurines cut out of felt, snowflakes, flags made of colored paper pasted over with adhesive tape to protect against moisture, burned-out light bulbs painted with paints, and much more.

Openwork wire snowflakes

Another simple decoration for the holidays is wire snowflakes. The wire base is decorated with Christmas tree tinsel, foil, knitting yarn. Such snowflakes are appropriate not only in the yard, but also indoors. It is easy to make them, so in a short time you can make many snowflakes, for example, for a garland.

  1. Prepare a coil of flexible wire that holds its shape well, wrapping material such as yarn and pliers.
  2. Print or freehand the star pattern. Bend the wire with pliers over the template and twist the ends.
  3. Wrap the workpiece with threads, secure the ends with a small piece of tape. Tie a loop in the corner of one of the rays.

Wire snowflakes can be made in any other shape by bending the wire in the desired direction.

Making winter crafts with your own hands is a sheer pleasure. Set aside an evening for work, show your imagination to enjoy a stylish and beautiful site all winter.

Winter is coming to an end and it is a little sad to say goodbye to frost and snow. In winter, you can transform the kindergarten site into a fairy kingdom with snowmen, huts, labyrinths and even snow dragons.

In kindergarten No. 1512 (Moscow, Southern Administrative District), it has become a good tradition to hold contests for the best winter plot. This year was no exception. In the competition, figures are evaluated according to several parameters, the main of which are functionality and originality.

Educators need to think through everything. Daily walks should be beneficial for the development of children. To ensure a high-quality organization of a walk in winter, it is necessary to create certain conditions: to clear the area from snow, to build buildings for the development of basic movements (walking, running, jumping, throwing).

And how much fun, joy and pleasure are given to children by playing snowballs, sledding, descending ice slides!

The design of winter areas is not an easy job, requiring large physical costs. In order to inspire teachers to create snow structures on the territory of the kindergarten, a review competition "Winter Site" was organized.

The objectives of the competition are:

  • improving the image of the preschool educational institution, maintaining traditions in the team and enhancing collective creative activity, developing creative abilities, fostering aesthetic taste
  • creation of favorable conditions for upbringing and educational work with children for a walk in the winter, increasing the physical activity of pupils in the conditions of a preschool educational institution
  • stimulating professional growth, developing the creative initiative of educators when carrying out health-improving and educational work with children for a walk in the winter.

Absolutely everyone, young and old, took part in the competition: children, parents, educators and even security guards. Preparation for the competition was very perky and fun.

The winners of the competition were awarded with diplomas, and other participants were awarded letters of thanks.

Designing winter walking areas is difficult, but at the same time rewarding!

In the autumn slush, I especially want the site in the kindergarten to be beautiful and cozy. We would like to share some thematic ideas for decorating a kindergarten site with our own hands.

They decorate the veranda or trees with bright garlands. They can be made from a variety of materials.

Use the gifts of nature. You can use the fruits of mountain ash, blackberry, pine cones, colorful leaves. All this is strung on a strong thread of the required length. Be sure to tell the children that such decorations can be food and salvation for birds in the frosty winter.

If you want the garlands to last for a long time and not deteriorate in the rain, use plastic. Take dry pool balls or sweet egg capsules as ingredients. You can cut flowers from plastic bottles, but such decorations will need to be hung as high as possible - it is easy to cut on sharp edges.

The music of wind

To create an unusual beautiful pendant, you will need multi-colored threads, pebbles, feathers, cones, glass beads, even small bells. However, the materials depend on your imagination - some even use pieces of birch bark.

The main thing is to observe the general principle of making "wind chime":

  • Tie two sticks or twigs with strong string in a crisscross pattern.
  • String the ingredients. Pick up the leaves and feathers so that they increase in size in one direction. Tie a heavy pebble at the bottom of the thread. In total, you need to make 8 small garlands.
  • The last step is to tie it all to the crosspiece and get a wonderful "Music of the Wind", which can be hung on the veranda.

Autumn bouquets

Bouquets of twigs, leaves, acorns, rowan bunches last long enough if they are properly prepared.

Collect the branches into beautiful bouquets by tying them with thread. You can also attach bunches of mountain ash and bunches of acorns to them. All this must be fixed in a stable support - for example, stick the bouquet into the foam, decorating it with moss and stones for stability. Attach the leaves with threads or glue guns to the branches as well.

Little tricks

Leaves for decorating the veranda must be dried with an iron. Then they will not curl as they dry and will retain their pleasant appearance.

For knitting bouquets or attaching garlands, you can use a pharmaceutical gum - it does not rot from moisture.

For the manufacture of garlands, it is better to use a nylon thread. Ordinary threads break easily, and the line and wire cut the berries.

To make the garlands of chocolate egg capsules not uniform, paint them with regular nail polish in different colors.

Plot decoration in winter

The winter holidays were over, the children hurried to the kindergarten with great pleasure and joy. We really missed our friends and toys. And of course we were looking forward to the walk. After all, our plot during the winter holidays it has changed a lot and has become very bright and colorful. We teachers have transformed, colorfully formalized their site and cheered up their guys.

I invite you dear colleagues on a tour in my own way. plot.

The whole plot along the perimeter they were decorated with such multi-colored balls. Cold water was poured into the balloons and carried outside. Not difficult at all, but very beautiful.

On each there is a slide... We decorated our hill with colorful flowers.

A multi-colored flower bed was made from a sandbox. Flowers were cut out of a multi-colored fabric and decorated a flower bed. They also decorated the flower bed with colorful balls. Using this flower bed, we fix the color.

A bee flies to the flowerbed, wants to collect nectar and treat everyone with delicious honey. And into the barrel that the bee holds in its paws, you can throw silver cones.

The horse grazes near the flower bed. Yes, the horse is not simple, it is decorated with elements of Dymkovo painting. You can crawl under the horse.

And the turkey among plot: ball - ball - ball. Here is what a proud handsome man stands behind order on plot looks.

Near the chicken: to - to - to…. You can climb on a chicken and go on a long journey.

All your crafts issued elements of Dymkovo painting. It became bright, beautiful plot.

They also made a house out of snow for playing with dolls: built a sofa and a table.

And next to it is a slide for dolls. The dolls really want to ride on the mountain.

To us on plot the bullfinches and titmouses also flew by.

And of course we prepared a portable material for work (shovels, scrapers, rammers, snow sleds).

Prepared portable material for outdoor games, experimentation, observation.

We have heard words of gratitude from the parent, grandmothers and grandfathers. In the evening, picking up children from kindergarten, they are in no hurry to go home. Go to plot, play, ride a slide, take pictures and take good care of our buildings.

A beautiful garden for every taste.

As an alternative to a regular vegetable garden, you can plant your own vegetable garden in the same way as you would plant flowers - in beautiful rounded shapes next to a gazebo or seating area.

The most beautiful thing in any garden is the plants themselves. Healthy, fresh, aromatic. If you are planting a vegetable garden as a decorative flower bed, make sure that it does not gape with bare voids after harvesting early vegetables and herbs.

If the garden is small, then you can spend money on beautiful fences for high beds.

Combining vegetables with ornamental plants, you will be surprised yourself how unexpectedly refined the leaves and fruits of vegetable crops look.

A beautiful vegetable garden, just like flowers, can be grown in a container and decorate the terrace with them.

You can join the ranks of the owners of beautiful gardens, even if you do not have a summer cottage. Perhaps, root crops such as carrots are not practical to grow on the balcony, but everyone can grow greens and special potted varieties of tomatoes and peppers.

It is not necessary to experiment with the design of the garden for the entire plot - try to make this year a small kitchen garden near the house in the form of a flower bed. One of your practical steps will give you more information and conclusions than 100 photos of beautiful gardens.

A beautiful vegetable garden is not empty fun. It still brings healthy vitamins, energizes you and helps you save on food. Your vegetable garden can become the subject of your special pride if it has its own unique design and modern practicality. But, this is your garden, and you decide how much you are willing to work in the determination to make it beautiful, as in these photos.

Any labor expended on the garden will undoubtedly pay off with a good harvest. But there is more desire to take care of a beautiful garden, do you agree?
